The book behind you is the fruit of collaboration of culture lovers, translators, editors and illustrators who have attempted to compile it for a long time. This book which has been published bilingually (Persian, Italian) by the cooperation of Italian Embassy, not only contains Italian recipes, but also it’s an album of Iranian illustrators’ art works.
Italian foods are so popular in Iran; however, other Italian foods are not well-known apart from Pasta and Pizza. In one hand, you will study more and various number of Italian foods in this book. On the other hand, beautiful and fantasy pictures of the book make the cooking desirable for you. This book was chosen as “Beautiful Iranian Book “in August 2008 along with some other books and it was sent to Germany to participate in final jury of Leipzig International Fair.

National food of each country stems from tradition, rituals and customs of the region. The raw materials of the foods demonstrate taste and available materials for local people and the recipes which have been progressed in different eras and period of times indicate history and exchanges of the inhabitants in each region with other areas, so that it’s an appropriate field to create an artwork which show most of hidden aspects of the culture of that country.
Therefore, the book behind you not only contains Italian recipes, but also it’s an album of Iranian illustrators’ art works.
In this collection, I decided to design cooking set using illustrations of two of the Iranian illustrators and I designed and produced the whole collection by their permission (Hoda Haddadi and Farshid Shafiei). All images are digital printing on fabric.
Since book illustration of Iran is an entrenched and ancient art, the Iranian illustrators have been able to achieve a modern and exclusive statement using this historical background and combining it with language and today’s message which has won many prizes in international events and reputable exhibitions around the world. Consequently, I have decided to use this art to print on textile products. I suppose usage of Iranian illustration instead of internet and conventional images would serve useful in increasing awareness level of consumer’s society as well as distribution of such art.
Illustration has been always associated with books. Now, fabrics and clothing could be another base and medium to transmit images to the audiences and printing illustration on such products means message transmission, designer’s point of view and a creative medium.
In short, the goal of this collection is to utilize Iranian illustration, not conventional and internet images, on the fabric to produce “ Cooking Set and its Accessories”, clothing, dishes, cushion, pillow case, bag, mouse pad, cellphone cover and a number of containers.
Therefore, I have chosen artworks of “Hoda Haddadi” among works of Iranian illustrators and she has accepted to cooperate in this project as well.
I had several reasons for this choice:
First of all, the illustration of Hoda Haddadi has no specific audiences and it can communicate with all ages. Secondly, her works are all understandable, vivid, fresh and conceptual. The subsequent reason is her technique, namely “Collage”. Collage holds visual attraction and can make images tangible and outstanding, so that it’s possible to socialize more with characters. Finally, Collage is a technique which is shaped consciously by the use of fabric pieces; hence, it has better relation with fabric and clothing as well as finding a particular sight on this issue.
The following collection named as “ Let’s Put On Book” is the name of a collection containing my set which has been designed, manipulated and produced in collaboration with two reputable Iranian illustrators from “Hundred Delicious Tastes, Hundred Hilarious Pictures” book. Furthermore, for printing images on the fabrics I have used Digital Printing in Iran.
No.1 collection: we have endeavored to utilize the best material and each product has been implemented in the best printing house of Iran. This collection includes from cooking sets such as aprons, stove gloves, refrigerator handgrips, caps (accessories) to dishes and curtains.
All the printed illustrations in this collection have been designed in accordance with each product and they have been modified by Illustration i.photoshop.
In photography of the project, several applicable pictures have been taken in order to display usages of their products in kitchen’s atmosphere.
No.2 set: this collection consists of aprons, stove gloves, small potholders, bread baskets, kebab skewer holders, lady’s hats, aprons and men’s hats. The illustrations have been drawn and produced by Ms. Hoda Haddadi. She has particularly made the illustrations after producing No. 1 set by her own artistic taste for “Sanaz” trademark.
Cooking sets and other products have been exposed publicly in conceptual art exhibition. It has been tried to point to the conceptual aspect of the works in photography and irony and comic atmosphere has been used in photographic subject due to fantasies of the illustrations.
After successful experience of No.1 set, I have produced some products for men such as aprons and hats. In men’s aprons, illustrations of Mr. Farshid Shafiei have been used. Moreover, this illustration is put on the cover of “Hundred Delicious Tastes, Hundred Hilarious Pictures” book.
No. 3 set: after success and implementation of the No.2 set, I decided to manufacture another set that Ms. Hoda Haddadi illustrated beautiful and various images for this collection.
This set contains stove gloves, potholders, kebab skewer holders and aprons. In order to increase attraction and to offer products professionally, I designed specific boxed for them.
No.4 set: designing the above mentioned products lead to Basme Gallery’s offer of cooperation by the use of “Sanaz” trademark.
Therefore, No.4 kitchen set was presented to Basmeh Gallery based on illustrations of the No.1 set but with new design and scent.
To complete the collections and creating variety to the products, a number of dishes and cooking accessories were designed and produced along with the presented sets. These products including pasta dishes, trays, salt shakers, glass mats and coffee sets along with fabric products make a unique and harmonic kitchen.
These products are made of the best available materials of the market and all images are printed and fixed using furnace printing which are usable and washable.
